Brookhaven Country Club, golf courses
and private dwellings have not always been the norm for planning a community. Understandably,
it was quite unusual when, in 1910, a group of investors bought 150 acres of land
for a golf club and residential dwelling named Brookhaven.
Located on the northern edge of Buckhead,
north of the intersection of Peachtree
Road and Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Brookhaven
sits as a testimony to the dreams of
man and the art of great design.
Brookhaven's homes and streets were
planned and built around its nine hole
golf course which was expanded
to 18 holes by 1915. With the Capital
City Country Club at its center,
Brookhaven continued to grow through
the 1920's and was completed in the
1940's and 50's. Architects such as
Neel Reid and Hal Hentz were among the
many who put their talent into the historic
community.
Great things are still happening in
Brookhaven and parallel the community's
position both physically and historically.
Over the past ten years construction
has once again begun as old houses are
demolished to make room for the new.
The mixing of the historic and modern
can be seen while walking down the broad,
lush streets of the neighborhood. Colonial,
Georgian, Tudor and English styled homes
are inhabited by the neighborhood's
regular plethora of walkers. This community
lives with a sense of pride in their
surroundings, feeling a rich heritage
in the story of the land and the people
who have been a part of it over the
past century. They are also people who
live with the convenience of Atlanta
just minutes away while being completely
surrounded by nature.
Brookhaven also boasts an extremely
social neighborhood. Book, garden
and supper clubs are just a few
of the simple daily pleasures neighbors
enjoy together. Family-oriented social
events fill calendars and bring
people together as friends as well as
neighbors.
With the median price of existing homes
in the $1,5000,000 and new construction
topping out at $3,500,000, Brookhaven
is a unique golf community, old in legacy
but young at heart. Come and experience
the history for yourself. You might
decide to stay.
